Burning Permit

The ordinance for burning permits allows residents of Ham Lake to apply for burning permits to burn piles of brush.

Below is a highlight of the burning permit requirements:

  • Residents must apply for a burning permit prior to burning.
  • There is a $30.00 fee, and the Fire Chief will approve/deny the application after inspecting the requested burn material.
  • Burning permits are allowed for three consecutive nights from 6:00 pm – 6:00 am.
  • The location of the burning shall not be within 600 feet of any occupied residence other than those located on the property on which the burning is conducted.

    Except for Prescribed burns, the only materials which may be burned in any fire (except in HEATING DEVICES), whether or not a permit is required is wood. “Wood” means dry, clean fuel only such as twigs, branches, limbs, “presto logs”, charcoal, cord wood or untreated dimensional lumber. “Wood” does not include wood that is green, leaves or needles, rotten, wet, oil soaked or treated with paint, glue or preservatives. Clean pallets may used for recreational fires when cut into three.
