Open Burning
Open burning of any matter is prohibited except when the fire is used for cooking, warming or ceremonial purposes and is not more than three feet in diameter. All combustible material must be cleared five feet from the outside edges of the fire. The material must be cleared five feet from the outside edges of the fire. The only material which may be burned in any fire (except in HEATING DEVICES), whether or not a permit is required is wood. "Wood" means dry, clean fuel only such as twigs, branches, limbs, "presto logs", charcoal, cord wood or untreated dimensional lumber. "Wood" does not include wood that is green, leaves or needles, rotten, wet, oil soaked or treated with paint, glue or preservatives. Clean pallets may be used for recreation fires when cut into three. The fire must be attended at all times and under managed supervision.
In some instances, a permit may be issued for a larger fire. Application are available at City Hall, and require a $30.00 fee along with inspection by Fire Department personnel.
