Fundraisers

Collection of Used Cell Phones

NCOA (National Council on Aging) has developed a way to make the most of used cell phones. The Senior Center collects used cell phones as an easy fundraiser and at the same time helps the environment by keeping cell phones out of our nation’s landfills. We encourage everyone in the community to collect used cell phones and drop them off at the Senior Center. All cell phones will be ‘flashed’ to wipe out any previous information stored. This will allow for reprogramming/refurbishing for use in countries with less advanced cellular technology than the U.S., or the cell phones will be recycled for their precious metals. We are collecting only cell phones, not the cellular parts, such as chargers and batteries. This will be an on-going fundraiser. Even if you do not have a cell phone yourself, please inform family members, friends, and neighbors to drop-off their used cell phones. If you know of a business, church, or office that would be willing to have a drop box, please contact the Senior Center at 763- 434-0455.

2nd Time Around Sale

Second Time Around Sale is held once a year. A bake sale will also take place at the senior center on this date. The Senior Center collects donated knick-knacks, kitchen items, clothing, jewelry, bedding, holiday items, etc., the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday before the sale. All proceeds benefit the Senior Center.

Lutefisk/Meatball Dinner

This 20-year tradition makes the holiday complete for Scandinavians and other nationalities too! This tradition is held on the third Friday in October. Tickets go on sale at the end of September, with a few tickets available at the door. The traditional all-you-can-eat buffet will include lutefisk, meatballs, boiled potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, rutabagas, cream sauce, melted butter, lefse, dinner rolls, coffee, punch, and dessert.

Casino Runs

Every other month, a motorcoach transports those interested in gambling to the various casinos in Minnesota. The last Tuesday of the month is set aside for this event. Contact the Senior Center at 763-434-0455 for cost.
